Upper Grades Print Unit 3
TouchMath Upper Grades Unit 3 helps students develop proficiency with skip counting sequences for one-digit numbers. This skill establishes the foundation for multiplication and division using the TouchMath approach. The unit includes 200 reproducible activity masters and a resourceful day-by-day teacher’s guide. Standards for grades 1–3 are covered in this unit.

The goal of TouchMath Upper Grades Unit 3: Skip Counting is to develop proficiency with skip counting sequences for one-digit numbers. This skill establishes the foundation for multiplication and division using the TouchMath approach. The one-digit numbers are presented in sequential order, building on processes and patterns of lesser numbers.
Each of the eight modules has two clusters: (1) Pictures, Patterns, and Practice and (2) Graphs, Arrays, and Application. Basic activities within each cluster are repeated for learner familiarity and increased rate of learning. The activities move from objects to pictures to numbers and demonstrate repeated addition for each one-digit number. Other motivational activities (e.g., puzzles, mazes, codes, missing numbers, numbers out of order) provide meaningful repetition in a variety of forms. The presentation can be thought of as the three R’s of skip counting: repeat, reinforce, and relate.
Throughout the unit, bubble answers accustom students to more formal testing procedures. They are mixed in with written answers in the modules, but the unit review and the unit pre- and post-tests require only bubble answers.
The unit presents information in multiple ways, in accordance with the Universal Design for Learning. This design has been scientifically proven to assist students with disabilities in attaining higher achievement. There is a high correlation between proficiency with skip counting and success with multiplication and division. When students finish this unit, they should be able to skip count one-digit numbers within 100.
