Upper Grades Print Unit 4
TouchMath Upper Grades Unit 4 helps build concepts of and fluency with one-digit factors. Skip counting is used to ensure learner success. The one-digit numbers are presented in sequential order, building on processes and patterns of lesser numbers. The unit includes 200 reproducible activity masters and a resourceful day-by-day teacher’s guide. Standards for grades 1–4 are covered in this unit.
Print unit only. Does not include digital access to Green Editions or TouchMath PRO.
This unit covers standards for grades 1–4.
The goals of TouchMath Upper Grades Unit 4: Multiplication and Division 1 are to build concepts of and fluency with one-digit factors. Skip counting is used to ensure learner success. The one-digit numbers are presented in sequential order, building on processes and patterns of lesser numbers.
Each of the six modules builds on the one preceding it: Skip Counting, Multiplication, Division, Strategies, Multiples and Factors, and Mixed Multiplication and Division. The activities progress from concrete/kinesthetic to realistic models (pictures, arrays, and area models) to visual cues, and finally to abstract numbers. Learners apply strategies to computation with operations. Prime and composite numbers are discovered using a hundred chart. A multiplication table is introduced as a tool for seeing relationships and finding products and quotients.
Throughout the unit, bubble answers accustom students to more formal testing procedures. These bubble answers are mixed in with written answers in the modules, but the unit review and the unit pre- and posttests require only bubble answers.
The unit presents information with significant changes in materials and procedures to allow learners with disabilities to achieve within the framework of the standards. The intentional TouchMath step-by-step approach provides meaningful repetition and maintains the fidelity of concept development and computational success. Students should be able to perform basic multiplication and division with one-digit factors when they complete this unit.
